Parody and satire in Australian copyright and trade mark law: A Panel discussion

May 10 @ 17:30 - 19:30

$60 - $80
A joint event of NSW IPSANZ and the Copyright Society of Australia, to be held on 10 May 2017.
Over 10 years have now passed since the introduction of the fair dealing parody or satire exceptions into the Copyright Act, yet while parody and satire abound, there has notably been no judicial consideration of these provisions.  Meanwhile, some trade mark applicants are seeking to register “parody” trade marks.   How are parody and satire being dealt with by rights holders, brand owners and creators?  What are the legal and policy issues involved?
Join our panel of creative and legal minds for a discussion of the issues of parody and satire in both copyright and trade mark law.
Our Panel
Chair: Anna Spies, 5 Wentworth Chambers
Date: 10 May 2017
Venue: Allens, Level 28 Deutsche Bank Place, 126 Phillip Street, Sydney
Cost:  $60 for members and $80 for non-members.
Time: Registration and drinks from 5:30pm, Panel at 6:00pm, with canapes to follow the presentation.
